This personal data policy describes how Retsguide ApS processes location data in connection with the use of our website and app. The purpose is to allow users to find the nearest open, free legal-aid service.

The processing is temporary and involves no collection or storage of personal data. Retsguide ApS is committed to complying with the GDPR and the Danish Data Protection Act.

We may temporarily process location data: your geographical position (latitude and longitude), solely in order to show the nearest free legal-aid services.

We do not collect, save or retain your location data. The processing ends when you close the app or the website.

The purpose is solely to let you find the nearest open, free legal-aid service. The processing is 100% in your own interest.

The processing is carried out on the basis of legitimate interest, cf. GDPR Article 6(1)(f). It is proportionate and limited to what is necessary.

Under the GDPR you have:

  • The right of access: confirmation of whether we process your location data (Article 15).
  • The right to object: the ability to object to the processing (Article 21).

Contact info@retsguide.dk to exercise your rights.

We have implemented technical and organisational measures against unauthorised access, loss and misuse, cf. GDPR Article 32, including encryption of location data during processing.

We do not store your location data. The processing ends when you close the app, cf. GDPR Article 5(1)(e). You can withdraw consent to location data in the app at any time.

We reserve the right to update this policy. Changes are published on the website and in the app.

If you believe that we process your data in breach of the GDPR, you can complain to:

When you create a profile and use Retsguide’s case preparation, we process the following categories of data:

  • Account data — name, email address, telephone number, address, profile picture and which login method you used (Google, Apple or MitID).
  • Case data — the description of your case that you write yourself, your answers to follow-up questions, the opposing party, your desired outcome, and documents you choose to upload. This data may reveal sensitive matters, for example health, family circumstances, finances or criminal offences.
  • Financial data — income, household circumstances and number of children, used to assess whether you are entitled to free legal aid (fri proces) or legal-expenses cover.
  • Payment data — amounts, status and transaction references. The card details themselves are processed by our payment provider and are not stored by us.
  • Usage data — technical and statistical information about how the service is used, for example page views and events. IP addresses are stored only in pseudonymised (hashed) form.

We process your data in order to deliver the service: to create and maintain your account, prepare your case, assess your entitlement to free or low-cost legal help, generate letters and documents, put you in contact with a lawyer, process payments, and improve and secure the platform.

  • Delivery of the service is carried out to perform our contract with you, cf. GDPR Article 6(1)(b).
  • Statistics and analytics cookies are processed only if you give consent, cf. Article 6(1)(a).
  • Operation, security and improvement of the platform are carried out on the basis of legitimate interest, cf. Article 6(1)(f).
  • We process sensitive data in your case description because it is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, cf. Article 9(2)(f). You may also give explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a).

Retsguide uses a language model from Anthropic (Claude) to analyse your case and generate legal drafts. Before your text is sent for analysis, we automatically remove direct identifiers — CPR numbers, email addresses, telephone numbers, account numbers and postcodes — and replace your name and address with placeholders. The language model is not used to train general AI models on your data.

Please note that documents you upload are sent for analysis as they are. Do not upload documents containing information that is not necessary for your case.

We never sell your data. We disclose it only to suppliers who process data on our behalf under a data processing agreement:

  • Anthropic — AI analysis of case text.
  • Microsoft Azure — hosting of the platform and storage of uploaded documents.
  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Google (Firebase) — login and notifications.
  • Google, Apple and MitID — login, if you choose the method in question.
  • Our email provider, which sends messages to you.

If you ask us to put you in contact with a lawyer, we share the information about your case that the lawyer needs in order to assess it — and only if you choose to.

Some of our suppliers process data outside the EU/EEA, including in the USA. Where that happens, we secure the basis for transfer through the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or a valid adequacy decision. You can contact us for a copy of the basis.

We store your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and your cases are removed. Cases you delete yourself are permanently removed after 30 days, during which they are retained only so that you can undo the deletion. Data forming part of our bookkeeping — for example payment transactions — is retained for 5 years, cf. the Danish Bookkeeping Act.

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the data we process about you (Article 15);
  • have incorrect data rectified (Article 16);
  • have your data erased (Article 17);
  • have the processing restricted (Article 18);
  • receive your data in a machine-readable format (data portability, Article 20);
  • object to the processing (Article 21);
  • withdraw a consent at any time.

You can delete your account and download a full copy of your data directly in your profile. You can also contact us at info@retsguide.dk.

We have taken technical and organisational measures against unauthorised access, loss and misuse, cf. GDPR Article 32 — including encryption of data in transit, access control, and automatic removal of personal data before text is sent for AI analysis.

We use no statistics, analytics or marketing cookies. We do not track you, we show no ads, and there are no third-party cookies on the website.

We store three necessary things on your device: rg_lang (your language choice, cookie and local storage) and rg_consent (your choice in the cookie dialog). In addition you can voluntarily switch on rg_hero_draft, which saves the text you are typing in the description field so it is not lost. That text stays on your own device and is sent nowhere until you submit it.

The full overview — with purpose, type and duration for each item — is in our cookie policy. You can change or withdraw your consent there at any time.

We may update this policy. Material changes are published on the website. If you believe that we process your data in breach of the GDPR, you can complain to Datatilsynet, Carl Jacobsens Vej 35, 2500 Valby, dt@datatilsynet.dk.
